Vendor/Project: Ericsson
Product: CodeChecker

Description

CVE-2026-58107 is a medium severity vulnerability in Ericsson CodeChecker where the massStoreRun processing path decompresses attacker-controlled Base64-encoded zlib data without limiting the decompressed size. An authenticated user with permission to store analysis runs can submit a highly compressed payload that expands significantly in memory, potentially exhausting process or host memory and disk space, causing denial of service.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Ericsson CodeChecker's massStoreRun processing path involves one-shot decompression of Base64-encoded zlib data controlled by an authenticated user. Because there is no enforcement of a maximum decompressed size, a crafted highly compressed payload can expand to a much larger size in memory before being written to a temporary file. This can lead to exhaustion of system memory and disk resources, resulting in denial of service conditions. The flaw is categorized under CWE-409 (Improper Handling of Highly Compressed Data) and CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling).

Potential Impact

An authenticated user with permission to store analysis runs can cause denial of service by submitting a specially crafted compressed payload that expands excessively in memory and disk usage. This can exhaust process or host memory and consume substantial disk space, disrupting normal operation of the CodeChecker service.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict permissions to store analysis runs to trusted users only and monitor resource usage to detect abnormal decompression activity.
