VulnerabilityCVE-2026-60081cvecve-2026-60081cwe-770
Published: 07/14/2026 (07/14/2026, 15:34:35 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: HMBRAND
Product: DBI::ProfileData

Description

DBI::ProfileData versions before 1.651 for Perl do not limit the path index. The path index column of profile dump files is used to allocate an array of data for the parser. An unbounded value allows an attacker to specify a large index and consume available memory.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in HMBRAND's DBI::ProfileData (CVE-2026-60081) involves the allocation of resources without limits or throttling (CWE-770). Specifically, the path index column in profile dump files is used to allocate an array for the parser, but because there is no limit on the path index value, an attacker can specify a very large index. This results in excessive memory consumption, potentially causing denial of service or resource exhaustion on the affected system. The issue affects all versions prior to 1.651.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause the DBI::ProfileData parser to allocate excessive memory by specifying a large path index value in profile dump files. This can lead to resource exhaustion, potentially resulting in denial of service conditions or degraded system performance. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Users should upgrade to version 1.651 or later once available. Until a patch is confirmed, avoid processing untrusted profile dump files or implement external resource limits to mitigate potential memory exhaustion.
