VulnerabilityCVE-2026-6228cvecve-2026-6228cwe-269
Published: Fri May 15 2026 (05/15/2026, 07:46:36 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: shabti
Product: Frontend Admin by DynamiApps

Description

The Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in versions up to and including 3.28.36. This is due to insufficient authorization checks in the role field update mechanism combined with overly permissive capabilities for the admin_form post type. The admin_form custom post type uses 'capability_type' => 'page', which grants editors the ability to create and edit forms. When an editor creates an edit_user form, they can manipulate the form configuration to include 'administrator' in the role_options array by directly submitting POST data to wp-admin/post.php, bypassing the UI restrictions in feadmin_get_user_roles(). When the form is subsequently submitted, the pre_update_value() function in class-role.php only validates that the submitted role exists in the form's role_options array (lines 107-110), but fails to verify that the current user has permission to assign that specific role. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to first register as editors (via a public new_user form), then create an edit_user form with administrator in the allowed roles, and finally use that form to escalate their own privileges to administrator.

Technical Analysis

The Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin for WordPress suffers from improper privilege management (CWE-269) due to insufficient authorization checks in its role field update mechanism. The admin_form custom post type uses 'capability_type' => 'page', allowing editors to create and edit forms. Editors can manipulate the edit_user form configuration by submitting POST data directly to wp-admin/post.php to include 'administrator' in the role_options array, bypassing UI restrictions. The pre_update_value() function only checks if the submitted role exists in role_options but does not verify if the current user is authorized to assign that role. This flaw enables an attacker who can register as an editor to escalate their privileges to administrator by exploiting the form submission process.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with editor-level access to escalate their privileges to administrator, gaining full control over the WordPress site. This includes the ability to modify site content, change configurations, install plugins or themes, and potentially execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround is currently documented. Until a patch is available, restrict user registration and editor-level permissions on sites using the Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin. Monitor for updates from the vendor and apply patches promptly once released.
