CVE-2026-62368: CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') in grokability snipe-it
Snipe-IT is an IT asset/license management system. Prior to 8.7.0, a user with the customfields.create permission can store markup in CustomField.name, and app/Presenters/AssetPresenter.php assigns that value as an unescaped bootstrap-table header title. When another user opens an asset-list page associated with the fieldset, the stored markup executes on page load in that user's Snipe-IT session. This can expose same-origin data and perform authenticated actions with the victim's privileges, including privilege escalation when a superuser views the affected list. This issue is fixed in version 8.7.0.
AI Analysis
Technical Summary
Snipe-IT versions before 8.7.0 contain a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability due to improper neutralization of input in the CustomField.name field. A user with the customfields.create permission can inject malicious markup that is assigned as an unescaped bootstrap-table header title in app/Presenters/AssetPresenter.php. When another user accesses the affected asset-list page, the injected script executes in their session, exposing same-origin data and allowing actions with the victim's privileges, including privilege escalation for superusers. This vulnerability is addressed in version 8.7.0.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows attackers to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of other users' sessions, exposing sensitive same-origin data and enabling authenticated actions with the victim's privileges. This includes potential privilege escalation if a superuser views the affected page, which can lead to significant security breaches within the Snipe-IT environment.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Snipe-IT to version 8.7.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved in the official patch.
