Published: 10/01/2026 (10/01/2026, 16:11:47 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache HTTP Server

Description

Stack-based buffer overflow in mod_vhost_alias in Apache Software Foundation Apache HTTP Server through 2.4.68 on all platforms allows a remote client to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code via an HTTP request with a Host header exceeding 8192 bytes when VirtualDocumentRoot uses a hostname format specifier and LimitRequestFieldSize is raised above the default. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.4.69, which fixes this issue.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-63292 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the mod_vhost_alias module of Apache HTTP Server versions 2.4.0 through 2.4.68. The flaw is triggered by sending an HTTP request with a Host header longer than 8192 bytes when VirtualDocumentRoot uses a hostname format specifier and LimitRequestFieldSize is increased beyond the default. This can cause a denial of service or potentially allow remote code execution. The Apache Software Foundation has addressed this vulnerability in version 2.4.69.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code on the affected server. This could disrupt service availability or compromise the server's integrity. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache HTTP Server to version 2.4.69 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. Until upgraded, it is recommended to avoid increasing LimitRequestFieldSize above the default and to monitor Host header sizes in requests if possible.
