AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions or later to mitigate the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level flaw, applying the official kernel updates from the vendor is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified in the Linux kernel's hdlc_ppp module, where timers associated with PPP control protocols were not properly synchronized before freeing memory. This could lead to kernel memory corruption due to timer callbacks accessing freed memory. The issue was fixed by adding a detach callback that synchronizes timers before freeing resources, ensuring safe teardown of PPP protocols.
