A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel 5.15.x versions. Users should update to one of the fixed kernel versions listed (e.g., 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 or later). No additional mitigation is required once the system is updated. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of these fixes.
Description
CVE-2026-63806 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem where a guest-triggerable BUG_ON() in the ioeventfd datamatch code can cause a kernel crash due to unaligned memory access. The issue arises when a store operation splits a page and triggers a BUG_ON() because of alignment assumptions in the code. This has been replaced with a safer get_unaligned() approach to avoid undefined behavior. The vulnerability affects various Linux kernel versions and has been fixed in multiple 5.15.x releases.
