AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve this issue. Users should update their systems to the fixed kernel releases as provided by their distribution vendors. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the kernel changes. No additional mitigations are necessary beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem related to hugepage recovery in the shadow MMU has been resolved. The flaw involved improper validation of the base guest frame number (gfn) within memory slots, which could lead to out-of-bounds access and kernel page faults. This issue could occur when a guest creates a hugepage mapping extending below the bounds of a memory slot, causing KVM to link a shadow page with an invalid gfn. The vulnerability has been addressed by ensuring proper bounds checking before querying the maximum mapping level. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and a patch is available.
