AI-suggested
An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu (USN-8593-1) confirms that this vulnerability has been fixed. Users should update their linux-hwe-edge kernel packages to versions at or beyond the fixed releases. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMD GPU driver (drm/amdgpu/vcn) was resolved by setting no_user_fence for VCN v5.0.1 encoder and decoder rings, which do not support 64-bit user fence writes and reject command submissions with user fences. This flaw could allow local attackers to cause privilege escalation by corrupting instructions executed at a higher privilege level. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions and has been addressed in official patches.
