AI-suggested

An official fix is available and included in Linux kernel updates as referenced in Ubuntu security notice USN-8593-1. Systems running affected kernel versions should apply these updates promptly. No additional mitigation is required as the vulnerability is not reachable by unprivileged userspace or USB hosts.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB gadget FunctionFS subsystem (CVE-2026-63894) was resolved. The flaw involves improper serialization of DMABUF cancel operations against request completion, leading to use of freed memory pointers during USB request dequeue operations. This issue affects privileged gadget daemons interacting with the FunctionFS device node and is not reachable by unprivileged userspace or USB hosts. The vulnerability has been patched with a fix that moves the freeing of USB requests into a serialized cleanup work handler, preventing race conditions. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8 (high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability).
