A patch fixing this vulnerability is available and should be applied. The fix updates the usb gadget functionfs driver to copy only the actual received bytes on short ep0 reads, preventing uninitialized memory leakage. Users should update their Linux kernel to version 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 or later as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required as the vulnerability is not reachable by unprivileged userspace and normal USB host stacks reject the triggering condition.
Description
CVE-2026-63895 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB gadget functionfs driver where the function incorrectly copies more bytes to userspace than were actually received on a short control OUT transfer. This results in uninitialized kernel memory being leaked to the privileged FunctionFS daemon. The flaw occurs because the driver copies the full length specified in the USB setup packet rather than the actual received byte count. The issue is fixed by copying only the actual received bytes. The vulnerability is reachable only by privileged gadget daemons and requires bypassing normal host-side USB checks. Fixes are available in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later.
