AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue is fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's Industrial I/O (IIO) buffer hardware consumer code. The issue occurred in the error cleanup path of iio_hw_consumer_alloc(), where iteration over buffers used list_for_each_entry() while buffers could be freed during iteration, leading to access of freed memory. This was corrected by switching to list_for_each_entry_safe() to safely handle buffer iteration during cleanup. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8 and affects multiple Linux kernel versions. A patch is available to address this issue.
