What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available in the Linux kernel that adds a count check to prevent out-of-bounds reads in linedisp_display(). Users should apply the official kernel update containing this patch. Until patched, avoid zero-length writes to the message sysfs attribute of affected auxdisplay drivers. No other mitigations are specified.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel auxdisplay line-display driver allows an out-of-bounds (OOB) read when a zero-length write is made to the message sysfs attribute. The function linedisp_display() reads one byte before the buffer if the count is zero, causing an OOB read. This can lead to kernel panic on KASAN-enabled kernels or silent memory reads on stock kernels. The flaw affects auxdisplay drivers registered via linedisp_register() or linedisp_attach(), including ht16k33, max6959, img-ascii-lcd, and seg-led-gpio.
