An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue has been fixed. Users should update their Linux kernel packages to versions that include this fix to mitigate the vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C driver (tcpm/tcpci_maxim) was resolved. The flaw allowed a broken or malicious USB Type-C port to send a CRC-valid frame with a header indicating up to seven data objects but carrying fewer, causing the kernel to read from uninitialized stack memory. This issue has been fixed by validating the header against the actual data length and rejecting malformed messages.
