AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C alternate modes DisplayPort handling allows a broken or malicious device to send an incorrect count for a status update VDO. This causes the kernel to read uninitialized stack data and potentially send it elsewhere. The issue has been fixed by validating the count before reading the update object.
