AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions starting with 7.0.0-1014.14~24.04.1 and related builds. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to remediate this vulnerability. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fixes. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netem packet scheduler could cause a packet duplication loop, leading to resource exhaustion. This occurs when netem duplicates a packet and re-enqueues it, potentially causing recursive duplication if multiple netem qdiscs are in the queueing discipline tree. The issue was addressed by marking packets with a depth counter to prevent repeated duplication. The flaw affects various Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-1014.14~24.04.1 and related builds. Fixes have been released in multiple updated kernel versions.
