A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that the issue has been fixed by tightening the bounds on the hdrlen calculation to prevent overflow. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions as listed in the advisory. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 RPL implementation (CVE-2026-63984) involves an integer overflow in the hdrlen field within the ipv6_rpl_srh_decompress() function. This overflow causes the compressed header to overlap with decompressed data, leading to corruption of the routing header in forwarded packets. The issue arises when the number of segments (n) is 127 or greater, causing hdrlen to overflow an 8-bit unsigned integer. The vulnerability has been fixed by tightening the bounds on n to prevent overflow. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and a patch is available.
