AI-suggested
A fix is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions provided by their distribution, such as the Ubuntu security notices linked in the advisory. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the kernel patches. No additional mitigation is necessary once patched.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/iucv subsystem allows a local AF_IUCV HIPER user to cause a kernel crash via a race condition between recvmsg() and getsockopt(SO_MSGSIZE). This race leads to a NULL pointer dereference after iucv_sock_close() sets a device pointer to NULL. The issue is fixed by proper locking in the getsockopt implementation. Multiple affected Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and specific older versions are addressed by patches.
