AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.15.0-1112.119~20.04.1 and others. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernels to these fixed versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required once the system is updated.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv4 raw socket implementation allows malformed IP packets with an Internet Header Length (IHL) field less than 5 to bypass validation. This can lead to out-of-bounds memory access and a kernel panic when certain downstream consumers process the malformed packet. The flaw affects kernels prior to specific fixed versions and requires CAP_NET_RAW capability to exploit. The issue has been patched in multiple Linux kernel releases.
