AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that updating to the fixed linux-aws kernel versions resolves the issue. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. Due to ABI changes, third-party kernel modules may need recompilation and reinstallation. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's bcmgenet network driver was resolved, where enabling certain energy-efficient Ethernet (EEE) and power management (PM) features caused the RX path on GENET hardware to break, stopping RX traffic despite the link remaining up. This issue was reproducible on specific hardware including Raspberry Pi 4B and certain Broadcom boards. The vulnerability could lead to denial of service or system instability due to RX packet loss and potential kernel crashes. The issue is addressed by disabling RBUF EEE/PM features. Multiple Linux kernel security issues were fixed in the same update, with patches available for affected versions.
