A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue is fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version to prevent kernel panics caused by this vulnerability.
Description
A null pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd module was fixed. This occurs when a SMB2 client opens a file with a durable v2 handle and logs off, leaving a file pointer registered without a valid tree connection pointer (tcon). Accessing /proc/fs/ksmbd/files during this state causes a kernel panic due to an unguarded dereference. The issue affects certain Linux kernel versions and requires a share configured with 'durable handles = yes'.
