AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied by updating the Linux kernel to the fixed versions as provided by the vendor. The Ubuntu security advisories USN-8593-1 and USN-8603-1 provide updated kernel packages that include the fix. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the changes. Due to ABI changes, third-party kernel modules may need recompilation and reinstallation. Follow the vendor's update instructions carefully to ensure full remediation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iwlwifi driver for Intel Wi-Fi firmware was resolved. The flaw involved the transmission (TX) path continuing to dequeue and attempt to send frames during a firmware restart, despite the firmware being non-responsive. This caused a tight loop of failed transmissions and memory allocation churn, leading to high CPU usage and memory pressure. The issue was fixed by adding a check to stop all TX operations during firmware restart. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and specific other versions. A patch is available and should be applied to mitigate the issue.
