A patch is available and should be applied. The issue is fixed in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1112.119~20.04.1 and later listed fixed versions. Users should upgrade to these fixed kernel versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

CVE-2026-64177 is a Linux kernel vulnerability in the phonet/pep networking code where inconsistent bottom half (BH) locking around forwarded sk_receive_skb() calls can cause a self-deadlock. This occurs because the child socket lock is acquired with BH enabled in process context but with BH disabled in softirq context, leading to inconsistent lock states flagged by Lockdep. The issue was discovered via fuzzing and is fixed by wrapping the forwarded sk_receive_skb() call with local_bh_disable()/local_bh_enable() to ensure BH is always disabled when acquiring the child socket lock.
