AI-suggested
A fix is available and included in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later patched releases. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions listed in the vendor advisory. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. No additional mitigation steps are necessary as the issue is addressed by the official patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem log recovery code allows a crafted log transaction with no regions to cause a null pointer dereference during recovery. This occurs when a transaction's first operation is a bare transaction header without any associated regions, leading to a fault in the recovery parser. The issue was identified through an AI-assisted code audit and affects certain Linux kernel versions. It has been fixed in multiple patched kernel releases.
