A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel source. Users should update to a patched kernel version that includes the fix replacing memset()/memcpy() with per-field updates in the team driver. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
CVE-2026-64190 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's network team driver where a NULL pointer dereference can occur during a mode change. This happens because the team_change_mode() function clears the team->ops structure with memset() before restoring safe dummy handlers, allowing a concurrent transmit operation to call a NULL function pointer and crash the kernel. The race condition requires a mode change with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges concurrent with transmit activity on the team device. The issue has been fixed by replacing the memset()/memcpy() calls with per-field updates that avoid touching the transmit or receive handlers, preventing the race condition.
