AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-147.147, 6.8.0-1067.70, 7.0.0-1012.12~24.04.1, and others as listed. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required as the fix prevents map allocation when the BPF LSM is uninitialized.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem allows creation of BPF_MAP_TYPE_INODE_STORAGE maps even when the BPF LSM is uninitialized. This leads to improper handling of inode security blobs, causing a kernel panic due to a NULL pointer dereference during RCU callback execution. The issue is fixed by gating map allocation on BPF LSM initialization, preventing allocation when the supporting infrastructure is absent.
