AI-suggested
A fix is available for this vulnerability in the Linux kernel versions listed as affected. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include the patch for CVE-2026-64257 to mitigate this issue. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the updated kernel versions.
Description
A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client was resolved that involved improper handling of overlapping data areas in SMB2 responses. The flaw allowed invalid SMB2 responses with overlapping data areas to bypass length compatibility checks, potentially causing denial of service or other impacts. The fix restricts the exception for implied bcc[0] length to responses without data areas and rejects overlapping data areas before applying length exceptions.
