A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to correct the bitmap handling in the HID multitouch driver. The fix allocates a properly sized bitmap for per-slot state and limits mt_io_flags usage. Refer to the Ubuntu security advisory USN-8726-1 for patched kernel versions and update accordingly. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID multitouch driver allows out-of-bounds bit access on the mt_io_flags bitmap. This occurs because the code uses a single unsigned long as a per-slot bitmap indexed by a slot number that can be as high as 255, exceeding the bitmap size. This leads to corruption of adjacent memory structures and can cause kernel panic due to null pointer dereference. The flaw is reachable from untrusted USB or Bluetooth HID multitouch devices without requiring local privileges. A patch is available that corrects this by allocating a properly sized bitmap for per-slot state.
