AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to ensure the session key is only updated after successful NTLMv2 authentication. The fix prevents modification of the session key on failed authentication attempts. Users should update to fixed kernel versions as per the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component allowed modification of the SMB session key before proper NTLMv2 authentication verification. This flaw could let a client send a binding session setup with an invalid NT proof and still alter the session key before authentication failure is returned. The issue was fixed by ensuring the session key is updated only after successful authentication verification.
