AI-suggested

A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions starting with 5.15.0-1117.124 and related updates. Users should upgrade to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.

Description

CVE-2026-64428 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's GPIO subsystem related to improper locking in the IRQ startup path. The issue arises because the sch_irq_unmask() function uses a regular spinlock_t, which becomes a sleeping lock under PREEMPT_RT, causing invalid context sleep calls. This was fixed by converting the lock to raw_spinlock_t to ensure non-sleepable locking in the IRQ context. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to fixed releases in the 5.15 series and some older versions. A patch is available and has been incorporated in updated kernel releases.
