AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. The patch introduces proper bounds checking in the IE parsing loops to prevent out-of-bounds reads. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version that includes this patch. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. No alternative mitigations are indicated in the advisory.

Description

CVE-2026-64442 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rtl8723bs wireless driver. It involves out-of-bounds (OOB) reads in two IE parsing loops within the issue_assocreq() and join_cmd_hdl() functions. These loops lack proper header bounds checks before dereferencing the length field of information elements (IEs). A malicious access point can exploit this by sending truncated IE data in beacon or probe-response frames, causing the kernel to read beyond buffer boundaries.
