A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to clamp the FIFO frame count to the buffer size before data transfer. This prevents the stack overflow. Systems running the affected linux-aws kernel versions should update to the fixed versions as provided by the vendor.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iio: accel: bmc150 driver allowed a stack out-of-bounds write due to improper clamping of the FIFO frame count. This could be triggered by a malicious or malfunctioning accelerometer device reporting more frames than the buffer can hold, potentially overwriting critical stack data. The issue has been fixed by clamping the frame count to the buffer size. Legitimate devices are unaffected.
