AI-suggested

A patch is available that fixes the vulnerability by validating packet lengths before copying data in genelink_rx_fixup(). Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's usbnet driver for the GeneLink GL620A device allows an out-of-bounds read in the genelink_rx_fixup() function. This occurs because the function trusts device-supplied packet length data without verifying it against the actual received data size, leading to a kernel heap information leak. The flaw can be triggered without privileges as soon as the network interface is up. A patch has been released to properly validate packet lengths before copying data, preventing the out-of-bounds read.
