AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in updated Linux kernel packages for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 26.04 LTS. Users should apply the standard system update and reboot to apply the fixes. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. Follow the vendor's update instructions and upgrade to kernel versions 7.0.0-31.31 or later as specified in the Ubuntu advisories USN-8726-1 and USN-8727-1.
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: core: fix NULL-deref on adapter registration failure If adapter registration ever fails the release callback would trigger a NULL-pointer dereference as the completion struct has not been initialised. Note that before the offending commit this would instead have resulted in a minor memory leak of the adapter name.
