A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 6.8.0-147.147, 6.8.0-1067.70, 7.0.0-1012.12~24.04.1, and others. Users and administrators should update to one of the fixed kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2026-64603 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's intel-hid ACPI notify handler where concurrent execution on multiple CPU cores can cause a race condition. This race condition may lead to duplicate registration of the SW_TABLET_MODE input device, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference and potential system instability or crash. The issue affects certain convertible and detachable devices and was fixed by introducing a mutex to protect the notify handler from recursion and concurrent races.
