Users should consider discontinuing use of ATutor or isolating the affected system to prevent exploitation. Restricting instructor privileges and disabling ZIP upload functionality may reduce risk but do not fully mitigate the vulnerability.

Description

ATutor version 2.2.4 contains a path traversal vulnerability in its ZIP extraction functionality. An attacker with instructor privileges can upload a crafted ZIP archive that writes files outside the intended directory, including placing executable .phtml files in the web root. This can lead to remote code execution with the web server's privileges. The product is no longer actively supported, and no fix is available. Other versions may also be vulnerable but were not tested.
