A fix for this vulnerability is available in libssh2 as of commit 5e47761. Users and maintainers should upgrade libssh2 to a version that includes this commit to remediate the issue. Since the vulnerability affects client-side code, updating client libraries is essential. No vendor advisory content was provided to indicate alternative mitigations or temporary workarounds.
Description
CVE-2026-66032 is a double-free vulnerability in libssh2 versions through 1.11.1 affecting the sftp_open() function. A malicious SSH server can exploit this flaw to corrupt the heap of an authenticated client during SFTP session initiation. The issue arises when the server's response triggers a double free of the same buffer pointer, leading to heap corruption and potential function pointer overwrites on glibc systems.
