CVE-2026-66076: CWE-862: Missing Authorization in rabbitmq rabbitmq-server
RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. Prior to versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0, is_authorized/2 calls rabbit_mgmt_util:is_authorized/2, which checks only the management tag, instead of is_authorized_vhost/2. The /api/queues/quorum/:vhost/:queue/status handler reads the vhost from the path without checking that the user can access it. Any management-tagged user can therefore read Raft status, including leader, members, term, and commit index, for quorum queues in inaccessible vhosts, exposing cross-tenant queue names and cluster topology. The management plugin must be enabled and the attacker must have a management tag. This issue is fixed in versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0.
AI Analysis
Technical Summary
RabbitMQ's management API prior to versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0 improperly authorizes users with the management tag when accessing the /api/queues/quorum/:vhost/:queue/status endpoint. Instead of checking user authorization against the specific virtual host, it only verifies the management tag, allowing such users to read Raft status information including leader, members, term, and commit index for quorum queues in virtual hosts they should not access. This leads to exposure of cross-tenant queue names and cluster topology information. The vulnerability requires the management plugin to be enabled and the user to have the management tag. The issue is fixed in the stated versions.
Potential Impact
An attacker with a management tag can access Raft status information for quorum queues in virtual hosts they are not authorized to access. This leaks sensitive cluster topology and queue name information across tenants. However, the vulnerability does not allow modification or disruption of data, and requires the management plugin to be enabled and the attacker to have a management tag. The CVSS score is low (2.3).
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade rabbitmq-server to version 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, or 4.3.0 or later where this issue is fixed. Ensure the management plugin is enabled only for trusted users and restrict management tags appropriately. No other specific mitigations are noted.
