Published: 08/03/2026 (08/03/2026, 19:05:57 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: ClearFoundation
Product: ClearOS

Description

ClearOS 7.9 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in its Log Viewer component. Authenticated attackers can exploit this by submitting unsanitized input through the filter parameter, which is directly used in a shell command. This allows execution of arbitrary commands as the webconfig user. Because the webconfig user has extensive NOPASSWD sudo privileges by default, attackers can escalate privileges to root immediately. The vulnerability has a high severity score of 8.6. No official patch or remediation guidance is currently provided by the vendor.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-67599 is an OS command injection vulnerability in ClearFoundation ClearOS version 7.9, specifically in the Log Viewer component. The vulnerability arises from improper neutralization of special elements in the filter parameter, which is interpolated directly into a shell command in File.php without sanitization. Authenticated attackers can inject command substitution payloads to execute arbitrary commands as the webconfig user. Due to the default configuration granting the webconfig user extensive NOPASSWD sudo privileges, attackers can escalate privileges to root immediately after command execution. The CVSS 4.0 score is 8.6, indicating high severity. No official fix or patch has been documented as of the published date.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands with the privileges of the webconfig user. Given that the webconfig user has extensive NOPASSWD sudo privileges, attackers can escalate to root privileges without further authentication. This leads to full system compromise on affected ClearOS 7.9 installations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the Log Viewer component to trusted users only and consider limiting sudo privileges for the webconfig user if possible. Monitor for updates from ClearFoundation regarding patches or official mitigations.
