A patch is available that changes the allocation method for struct dc from kzalloc() to kvzalloc(), allowing fallback to vmalloc() and preventing allocation failures. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMD GPU driver (amdgpu) related to memory allocation for a large data structure (struct dc) has been resolved. The issue arises because struct dc can exceed the 4 MiB contiguous allocation limit of the page allocator, causing allocation failures and preventing the GPU driver from initializing properly. This results in the display subsystem being unusable. The fix changes the allocation method from kzalloc() to kvzalloc(), allowing fallback to vmalloc() for large allocations and preventing allocation failures.
