A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve this vulnerability. The vendor advisory confirms that the issue has been fixed. Users should update to the patched kernel versions listed in the advisory.
Description
A heap overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's txgbe network driver was fixed. The issue occurs because the function txgbe_read_eeprom_hostif() copies more bytes than allocated when the length is not 4-byte aligned, causing an out-of-bounds write. This flaw could lead to high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected. A patch is available to correct this vulnerability.
