A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve the incorrect IPv6 transport offset handling. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue is fixed. Systems running the affected versions should update to the patched kernel releases. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IP Virtual Server (ipvs) subsystem related to incorrect handling of IPv6 transport offsets has been resolved. The flaw involved the TCP application code incorrectly assuming IPv4 network headers even when IPv6 was in use, potentially causing issues with applications over IPv6. The issue was harmless for the official FTP app due to Netfilter port mangling and no TCP sequence number adjustments. Additionally, the offset for the ICMPv6 header was corrected for proper checksum verification when IPv6 packets include extension headers. Multiple affected Linux kernel versions have been patched.
