Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache Kylin

Description

Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') vulnerability in Apache Kylin. Special parameter in JDBC URL can lead to code injection.  Impact most to the kylin services that are directly exposed to public network, which is not common. In-house kylin deployments are mostly not impacted. This issue affects Apache Kylin: from 4 through 5.0.4. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 5.0.5, which fixes the issue.

Technical Analysis

Apache Kylin versions 4.0.0 through 5.0.4 contain a CWE-94 improper control of code generation vulnerability. A specially crafted parameter in the JDBC URL can lead to code injection, potentially allowing execution of arbitrary code. The vulnerability mainly affects deployments where Kylin services are exposed to public networks. The Apache Software Foundation has addressed this issue in version 5.0.5.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows code injection through a JDBC URL parameter, which could lead to arbitrary code execution on affected systems. However, the impact is limited because most Kylin deployments are internal and not exposed to public networks. Publicly exposed Kylin services are at higher risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Kylin to version 5.0.5 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
