Published: 08/14/2026 (08/14/2026, 14:33:17 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: datavane
Product: tis

Description

Datavane TIS version 5.0.0 has an XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to perform server-side request forgery and exfiltrate local files. The vulnerability arises from processing XML with an unhardened DocumentBuilderFactory that permits external entities and DTD loading. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted XML payloads to the doEditWorkflow endpoint, leading to outbound HTTP requests to attacker-controlled servers and disclosure of sensitive files such as configuration and database credentials.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-69101 describes an XXE injection vulnerability in Datavane TIS v5.0.0. Authenticated attackers can supply a malicious taskScript payload to the doEditWorkflow endpoint, which processes XML using a DocumentBuilderFactory with external entities and DTD loading enabled. This allows the attacker to cause the server to make outbound HTTP requests to attacker-controlled infrastructure and exfiltrate local files accessible by the TIS process user, including configuration files and Derby database credentials. The vulnerability enables server-side request forgery and out-of-band data exfiltration.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to server-side request forgery, allowing attackers to make arbitrary HTTP requests from the vulnerable server. Additionally, attackers can exfiltrate sensitive local files, including configuration files and database credentials, potentially compromising the confidentiality and integrity of the system and its data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the doEditWorkflow endpoint to trusted users only and consider disabling XML external entity processing if possible. Monitor for suspicious activity related to XML processing. Avoid processing untrusted XML inputs with external entity support enabled.
