Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 20:33:33 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: error311
Product: FileRise

Description

FileRise versions prior to 3.21.0 have an improper authentication vulnerability where disabled login methods (form login, basic auth, OIDC login) are enforced only on the client side but not consistently on the server side. This allows users with valid credentials for a disabled authentication method to bypass the administrator's login policy by directly calling the backend endpoint. Credential-free authentication is not possible. The issue is fixed in version 3.21.0.

Technical Analysis

FileRise, a self-hosted web-based file manager, improperly enforces login method restrictions only on the client interface prior to version 3.21.0. Server-side authentication flows do not consistently enforce the disableFormLogin, disableBasicAuth, and disableOIDCLogin settings. As a result, a user with valid credentials for a disabled authentication method can authenticate by directly accessing the backend endpoint, bypassing the administrator's login method policy. This vulnerability does not allow authentication without credentials. The flaw is addressed in FileRise 3.21.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with valid credentials for a disabled authentication method can bypass the administrator's login method restrictions by directly calling backend endpoints, potentially violating intended access controls. The vulnerability does not allow credential-free access and has no impact on availability. Confidentiality and integrity impacts are limited to the scope of the bypassed authentication method.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade FileRise to version 3.21.0 or later, where this improper authentication issue is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated or required as the vulnerability is resolved by the official patch.
