A patch is available that fixes the matcher leak by properly destroying the replacement matcher on resize target setup failure. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A memory leak vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's mlx5 network driver subsystem. The issue occurs when a replacement matcher object is allocated during a resize operation but not properly destroyed if the resize target setup fails, leading to a resource leak. This bug was detected through experimental kernel memory-management analysis and affects multiple Linux kernel versions. No runtime testing was performed due to lack of hardware. A patch is available to address this issue.
