A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve the bitset_size overflow issue. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed. Users should update to the patched kernel versions listed in the advisory to mitigate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's device mapper log (dm-log) subsystem causes a bitset_size overflow on 32-bit machines. This occurs because bitset_size, a size_t variable, can wrap around to zero due to improper calculation when rounding region_count to a multiple of BITS_PER_LONG. This overflow can lead to out-of-bounds memory writes. The issue affects specific Linux kernel versions and has been assigned CVE-2026-72105. A patch is available to fix this overflow condition.
