A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The issue is fixed in Linux kernel 6.5.7 and related updates. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions to resolve the locked bus condition. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's i2c imx driver related to SMBus block-read operations with a byte count of 0 could cause the I2C bus to become locked. The issue occurs because the interrupt-driven block-read state machine rejects the zero byte count as a protocol error but fails to properly complete the transfer, leaving the bus stuck until a power cycle. This flaw has been fixed in Linux kernel version 6.5.7 and related patches.
