AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve the deadlock issue. The vendor advisory confirms that this vulnerability has been fixed. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions provided by their distribution or vendor.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hugetlb subsystem could cause a self-deadlock when a PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctl requests PM_SCAN_WP_MATCHING on a hugetlb VMA. This leads to the calling thread hanging unkillably upon reaching an unpopulated memory range. The issue arises from the thread attempting to acquire a write lock it already holds a read lock for, causing a deadlock. The flaw has been fixed by changing the locking mechanism to avoid this condition.
