AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue is fixed in updated Linux kernel packages. Users should update their systems to the fixed kernel versions and reboot to apply the changes. Due to ABI changes, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. No additional mitigations are necessary beyond applying the official update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM nested virtualization (nVMX) subsystem involving the handling of the virtual Task Priority Register (vTPR) and TPR Threshold consistency check has been resolved. The issue involved deferring a consistency check that could lead to KVM running with an incorrect CR3 value when Extended Page Tables (EPT) are disabled. This flaw could allow an attacker with local access to compromise system integrity. The vulnerability is addressed by moving the consistency check into normal control flows and improving guest memory access methods. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected.
